Our story
UNIDOS was formed in 1996 by a group of community volunteers committed to helping Latinx survivors of domestic violence access local resources and services.

Early research in the 1990s indicated that although domestic violence was a serious issue within the migrant and immigrant Latinx community in Wisconsin, especially in rural areas, local service providers lacked the culturally relevant and bilingual resources necessary to work with Latinx victims.

Based on this finding, the need for services and programs from UNIDOS grew, and it became an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2001.
